List of Top Conspiracy Theorists
83The following is a list of some of the most popular and influential individuals in the field of conspiracy research to date. Since conspiracy theorists are a very diverse group it is expected that many will not agree with this listing; however, it is my belief that the individuals listed here represent the major figures in the genre of conspiracy theory.
Candidacy and ranking was determined using three criteria:
-
Reputation & Influence – How much interest do others have in the candidate?
-
Dedication - How much has the candidate contributed to their specific field? How long have they been involved in the field?
-
Influence – What impact has the candidate had on society?
The Conspiracy Theorist Top 40
Author's Note: I do not necessarily endorse any of the individuals on this list, or any organizations they may be associated with. Some of the individuals listed may be considered by some to be controversial figures, but all of them have had an impact upon the genre of conspiracy theory.
1. Alex E. Jones
Love him or hate him, the shock-jock talk radio personality, actor and filmmaker Alex Jones is undoubtedly the most influential figure within the genre of conspiracy theory. With nearly two dozen documentary films, a syndicated radio program, and millions of visitors each month to his websites Infowars.com and PrisonPlanet.com, this conspiracy guru has catapulted a once taboo topic into the realm of mainstream discussion.
As an expert on the New World Order conspiracy theory, he is a frequent guest on the extremely popular late night talk show Coast to Coast AM and a regular contributor to TruTV's Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura. He is an advocate for national sovereignty and constitutional government, and is one of the leading figures of the controversial 9/11 Truth Movement.
Among his more popular films are TerrorStorm: A History of Government Sponsored Terrorism (2006), Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement (2007), and The Obama Deception: The Mask Comes Off (2009). He has also made appearances in the Richard Linklater films Waking Life (2001) and A Scanner Darkly (2006).
2. David V. Icke
When it comes to the grand-daddy of all conspiracy theories the views of David Icke take the cake! Described by some as a New Age philosopher, this former BBC sports anchorman turned prominent Green Party spokesman, turned conspiracy theorist is perhaps best known for his beliefs concerning aliens, infinite consciousness, and the existence of a holographic universe. His theories concerning an ancient earth and reptilian humanoid shape-shifters have made him by far one of the most talked about conspiracy theorists of our time.
Despite his obvious New Age overtones and often bizarre theories, the views of David Icke have attracted individuals from all age groups across the religious and political spectrum. His website DavidIcke.com attracts over a quarter million visitors a month, and his books continue to draw the attention of critics and supporters alike.
He is the author of over a dozen books of which his book, The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World , is considered by some to be the Rosetta Stone for conspiracy theorists. Some of his more influential films include The Reptilian Agenda (1999) , Revelations of a Mother Goddess (2005) , and Secrets of the Matrix (2003) .
3. Gary Allen (1936-1986)
Conservative journalist, speech writer for George Wallace, and author of the best selling book, None Dare Call It Conspiracy, Gary Allen is perhaps the most important figure in awakening the public's interest in a New World Order conspiracy.
He was a very prominent member and spokesman for the John Birch Society and the author of numerous books that dealt with the roles of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, income taxes, war profiteering, and central banking in a New World Order conspiracy dedicated to the destruction of all national sovereignty.
Some of his other works include Communist Revolution in the Streets, Richard Nixon: The Man Behind the Mask, Jimmy Carter, Jimmy Carter, Kissinger: The Secret Side of the Secretary of State, The Rockefeller File, and Say "No!" to the New World Order.
4. John Robison (1739-1805)
One of the least well known, but by far one of the most influential individuals within the broad spectrum of conspiracy research and especially that of secret societies is Professor John Robison. This remarkable man may be responsible for single-handily and unwittingly creating the modern conspiracy theorist counterculture, and is most certainly the very reason the word Illuminati has become synonymous with conspiracy theories.
He was a Scottish physicist and mathematician, a Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, General Secretary of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, member of the Glasgow Literary Society, the inventor of the siren, and author of the extremely influential post-American Revolutionary War era book, Proofs of a Conspiracy against all the Religions and Governments of Europe, carried on in the Secret Meetings of Free-Masons, Illuminati and Reading Societies, etc., collected from good authorities.
In his book he purports to have knowledge of a group of individuals who infiltrated the Freemasons and other such organizations with the intent to utilize the secrecy and influence of these groups to destroy organized religion, bring down entire governments, and otherwise create a new global order through deception and cunning. He traces this group to the Bavarian Illuminati and connects them to such major world events as the French Revolution.
It is because of the enormous impact his book, Proofs of a Conspiracy, has had upon generations of conspiracy theorists that John Robison is arguably the single most important figure concerning the formation of the conspiratorial view of history.
5. Steven M. Greer, M.D.
One of the most prominent conspiracy theorists in the field of Ufology, Dr. Steven Greer is a self proclaimed contactee who is an author, a lecturer, and the founder of both the Disclosure Project and the Orion Project. John Lear is quite a character and the information that he puts out to the public ranges from underground and alien Moon bases to a planet where soul farming is done by extraterrestrial entities. He is one of the key figures in the Bob Lazar incident and also involved with the prominent individuals surrounding the infamous MJ-12 and "Avery" affairs. In addition, Mr. Lear is perhaps one of the more notable individuals─besides Richard C. Hoagland─who believes in a secret space program that is far more advanced and superior than the space program that the general public is familiar with and is allowed to know about it.

I found out about Alex Jones and Stephen Quayle on Coast to Coast AM and I am a regular of that show for like 5 years now. And I also keep up on Jones and Quayle. I don't buy everything they say but alot of it I can see as probable, especially Jones we are a police state truism.
Kevin Barrett - TurthJihadRadio. He's the kind of conspiracy reseacher that dares to tread where others won't.. He brings an Islamic perspective to his overall analysis of conspiracies.
The problem with conspiracies is Yes they exist, Lenin overthrow of the czar and replacing the government with communism, was a conspiracy. But alot of people promoting their pet idea are just in it for the fame and money.
Got to love the conspiracy kooks and all the conspiracies. Like the one where the government was going to print 2 different currencys back when they were first changing the look of paper money back in the 90's to combat couterfiting. One for domestic use and the other for international use. Of course the domestic was going to be devalued by half. Funny how that never happened.
Then there's the thousands of Chinese on the southern border just waiting for a word from Peking to attack. The Russian military bases in the US. Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr., Clinton, GW and Obama all bringing drugs into the country. I guess it's like a family buisness. They just hand it down. George Bush Sr. using the Secret Service to kidnap children In DC so he can molest them at the White House. Black helicopters, rail cars, concentration camps, the magical carberator that was developed by some backyard hick mechanic that did his own tune-ups that can anywhere from 80-200 miles per gallon, etc. etc. etc. Heard just about all of them. Don't even want to get into the whole chemtrails, 911 nonsense.
bond, james = agent troll
Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. If we cannot bring those responsible to justice, if we cannot pinpoint those committing crimes against America, her citizens, and the good people of other lands, then at least we must continue to ask questions until we can. Thank you for the research and caution needed to take these matters seriously. You can be sure that those orchestrating them do.
The truth is so incredible that most humans lack the open mindedness or willingness to even consider it. I used to think contempt prior to investigation was just for the weak and fearful, but now believe that it is due to the conditioning humanity has received for at least the last 12,000 years.
Bond, James is proof the fluoride is working and his self imposed limitations only confirm this. I can easily dismiss his inane dribble as one that fears the truth rather than investigate for himself.
I put many of the pieces of the puzzle together while reading the Terra Papers by Robert Morning Sky, I believe the unique perspective of an alien view of our history allowed me the insight needed for the epiphany that followed.
Thank you for writing this Hub as it is really nice to have all of these sources at my finger tips. What other morsels have you written?
Brilliant and well-researched hub! I would have added myself a few years back when I was happy to be called a conspiracy theorist but I seem to be becoming more and more on the side of the sceptics and debunkers as time goes by. I no longer believe in chemtrails, I support a member of an elite family namely David de Rothschild and have written many articles promoting him, I don't agree with MMS as a cure-all that it is promoted as, and now I am looking at the probable hoaxed contactee material of Alex Collier and before him Billy Meier.
I will suggest Chris Everard of the Enigma Channel and Feed Your Brain magazine should be added though because he is a friend of mine and I have written several articles for his mag.
m-1975,
i think thiswas great,
I recognize many of the authors from coast 2coast AM.
great job
TH
I don't think this list is right. It's not right to put people who actually tell us the truth, like Alex Jones and Jim Marrs, on the same page with mentally deranged people like David Icke. Good hub though, voted up and interesting.
G Edward Griffin didn't make the list?
How can you put William Cooper at 40. This man gave his life for the truth. Crappy list
Will Cooper did not give his live, he was murdered, and that is a fact that is plain and simple. A `Crappy list' is one of the biggest understatements of all time !!!!
ya forgot one ya jokers, G. Edward Griffin. This whole list itself is a conspiracy. enough said !!!!
@ Mandrake 1975, Interesting name to say the least, the name of a root used for wiccan purposes. I have also noticed that name of those listed, have since passed on. I would call that a pretty cheap shot exploiting folks names who have passed on who have no chance of defending themselves. So, would this also make Ret. Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer and former CIA Intelligence Officer Michael Scheuer in the same category as well ? because they both talk about what most of the above have mentioned which is against so-called `status quo' opposes. Somehow, this whole list is NOTHING more than front for a strawman.
Tarpley should be in the top 5
You forgot Luke Rudkowski, founding member of WeAreChange. Dylan Avery of Loose Change.
Jesse Ventura is mentioned in Alex Jones' entry, yet deserves his own entry as the host of TruTV's Conspiracy Theory.
Yes, G. Edward Griffin should be top 5.
